JetBlue's baggage policy

The basics on bringing carry-ons and checking bags

| More

JetBlue gives you more than the other guys. Like more savings with your first checked bag free! So go ahead and pack an extra pair of shoes or that "just in case" outfit. On JetBlue, you don’t have to squeeze everything into your carry-on.

The following information pertains only to JetBlue-operated flights and does not apply to codeshare or interline flights. Click here for information about Cape Air’s baggage policy.

First checked bag free

• Each customer may bring one bag free of charge.
• All checked bags must not exceed 62” (157.48 cm) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) and cannot exceed 50 pounds (22.73 kilos).
Please note: boxes will not be accepted as checked baggage on international flights.

Carry-on bags

• Each customer may bring onboard one personal item (purse, briefcase, laptop, etc.) plus one carry-on bag.
• Your personal item must not exceed 18"l (45.72 cm) x 15"w (38.1 cm) x 8"h (20.32 cm) in order to fit under the seat in front of you.

To fit in the overhead bin, your item must not exceed:
    • for our Airbus A320: 26” l (66 cm) x 18” w (45.72 cm) x 12” h (30.48 cm)
    • for our EMBRAER 190: 24” l (60.96 cm) x 16” w (40.64 cm) x 10” h (25.4 cm)

Additional bags

• If you’ll be carrying additional bags, there is a $30* fee for checking a second bag and a $75 fee for a third bag**. All checked bags must not exceed 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) and cannot exceed 50 pounds (22.73 kilos).

Overweight, oversized or excess baggage

Overweight, oversized or excess baggage may be checked on a load-availability basis. Fees will be assessed for each category that applies, i.e. if a bag is overweight and oversized, the overweight fee plus the oversized fee will apply. Fees will be collected at the airport upon check-in.

Overweight Bags Fee
51–70 pounds (31.82 kilos): $50 per bag
71–99 pounds (45 kilos): $100 per bag

Oversized Bags Fee
63–80 inches (203.2 centimeters): $75 per bag
Bags larger than 80 inches will not be accepted.

Checking baggage for someone other than yourself

• As mandated by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (P.L. 107-71), we cannot accept checked baggage on the aircraft unless the customer who checked the baggage is aboard the aircraft.

Checking in your bags

• All baggage must be checked at the airport at least 30 minutes prior to departure on domestic flights, and 60 minutes prior to departure on international flights.
• If you are jetting to an international destination, please check in at the ticket counter.
• Baggage will NOT be accepted for check in more than four hours prior to a flight's scheduled departure time.
• Click for guidelines on transporting specific items: sporting equipment, firearms, musical instruments

Please see the JetBlue Contract of Carriage for other important information applicable to traveling with carry-on or checked baggage.
